New Dialing Procedures Take Effect

On February 3 the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio released information on the new dialing procedure for customers within the 937 are code. The new procedures took effect on February 8th. The reason for the change is because the 937-area code is set to run out of available numbers in 2020. A new area code of 326 has been added and will take effect on March 8, 2020.

Those with a 937-area code must now have to use the 10 or 11-digit telephone number. For example; area code + the 7-digit telephone number or 1 + area code + the 7-digit telephone number. This is for local and long distance, any call that considered local will still be a local call. You can still dial just three digits to reach 911, 211, 811 ,311 and 511 where available. Make sure when giving our phone number to someone you be sure to give the area code+ 7digit number.

People who have important safety and security equipment should ensure they are programmed to use the 10-digit dialing. Most newer systems already operate on the 10-digit dialing system, but some older systems may still default to a 7-digit dialing system. Contact the provider of those systems to ensure they are programmed properly.  Also update any business cards, websites, personal checks, pet ID tags to include the area code.

If you seek a new phone number after March 8, 2020, you will receive a phone number with the new 326 area code. The 937/326 area code covers above Cincinnati to the western border of the state as far north as Lima, to the southern border that includes Adams County as its eastern edge. If you have questions or concerns about utilities The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) can be contacted at 800-686-7826. PUCO is the sole agency charged with regulating public utility services.
