If you’re looking for something more regular than monthly or bi-weekly activities, remember that in addition to each branches’ weekly Story Times, we also have programs designed specifically for tweens! The Peebles, West Union, and Manchester libraries all have a Tween Activity Club that meets weekly: West Union and Manchester’s are both every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while the Peebles Library’s is on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. Also, the After School Program at the North Adams Library happens every Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. At these programs, you’ll make crafts and do fun activities with friends alongside one of our programmers: Andrew, Holly, Raymond, or Allison.

If you’re a teen or tween who loves science, check out our September STEM Saturdays! Even if you missed Manchester’s, you can still create your own short film using our HUE Animation Studio at the Peebles Library on September 14, West Union Library on September 21, and North Adams Library on September 28. Every STEM Saturday starts at 10:00 a.m. and is funded by Guiding Ohio Online, a grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

Library Resource Spotlight: If you have a report for school you need to research, try using one of our many EBSCO databases listed on our website. The Academic Search Premier database contains content for all ages, including adults! MAS Ultra – School Edition was designed specifically for high school students. Then, Middle Search Plus narrows the searches down for middle schoolers, while Primary Search is perfect for kids in elementary school. Each of these EBSCOhost databases covers a variety of topics, providing articles, educational magazines, photographs, videos, and encyclopedic entries for each age range’s reading level.

All Adams County Public Libraries are open from 10:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Visit us online at adamscolibrary.org.

Everyone, remember that the Adams County Public Library’s county-wide Book Sale happens Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at all our locations. Each branch will have different selections for you to browse in order to find your next favorite book! We will have both fiction and nonfiction books available, including adult, children’s, and teen titles in both paperback and hardcover. All items have either been discarded from one of our libraries or donated to us. All proceeds from the book sale will go toward supporting that library branch and help enable us to provide our patrons with the materials and services you need.

Learn how to make your own movie at September’s STEM Saturdays! This month we will feature stop-motion animation using our HUE Animation studio. Make your own mini-film with our library’s LEGOs or bring your own action figures and other toys to personalize your movie. Every STEM Saturday will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting September 7 at the Manchester Library, followed by Peebles Library on September 14, West Union Library on September 21, and North Adams Library on September 28.

Don’t forget that North Adams Library’s Family Game Night will be Wednesday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m. We’ll have games for all ages, including a variety of board games like Life, Clue, and Candyland, in addition to other games like Twister, Jenga, and some card games. Snacks will also be provided to help fuel the family fun! You can pre-register, which is preferred but not required, by calling the North Adams Library at 937-386-2556.

Remember, the Adams County Public Library offers Outreach Services for homebound patrons as well as daycares, nursing homes, schools, and preschools. Serpell and Deborah deliver books, DVDs, audiobooks, and other items monthly to different areas of Adams County, ensuring everyone has access to our library’s resources. In addition, for daycare providers and school teachers, call and ask about getting hand-picked books to match your themes delivered or having multiple copies of a book brought straight to your classroom!

Library Resource Spotlight: With school back in session, you can help your younger kids get ahead with Early World of Learning! This website encourages all aspects of reading comprehension using a fun, playful, and interactive learning environment. Its multidimensional design includes educational videos, games, and activities, in addition to a variety of stories spanning a Lexile level range from kindergarten to 3rd grade. With numerous different subjects like weather, dinosaurs, and numbers and cool topics such as “Terrific Trees,” “On the Move,” and “Tough Trucks,” Early World of Learning delves deeper into many concepts your child learns in school. Also, the website has several different types of activities to do, from paint by numbers, to coloring pages, to printable activity pages, including connect the dots, mazes, matching challenges, and more! In addition, they have numerous concentration and true-or-false games to help your child excel.

All Adams County Public Libraries are open from 10:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Visit us online at adamscolibrary.org.
