Letter to the Editor
American farmers and those in the agricultural community are known for adapting to sustainable advancements and practices. Embracing these advancements in energy and production can have an enormous and positive impact on the livelihoods of all farmers in Ohio. After all, 1 in 8 Ohioans work in the food and agriculture industry.
Farmers understand that clean energy technologies and more advanced environmentally-friendly practices are evolving before our eyes. These advancements will make farming more efficient and safer for the environment. That’s why it’s so heartening to see Senator Rob Portman representing our state in the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus, which is working to put bipartisan solutions into action.
I’ve been similarly encouraged by policy that gives America’s farmers the tools to address and lessen harmful impacts on our environment, like the Growing Climate Solutions Act. If passed, the bill would make it easier for farmers like me to participate in existing private carbon credit markets by adopting environmentally-friendly agricultural techniques into our regular operations.
Bipartisan solutions that focus on sustainable practices in agriculture or any other industry is a step in the right direction. As the Growing Climate Solutions Act shows, it is possible to protect the environment while supporting hardworking Americans through practical, market-based solutions that address lowering emissions with practical, affordable and realistic solutions. I urge all of our leaders in Congress, specifically Ohio’s Senator Rob Portman, to co-sponsor the Growing Climate Solutions Act and support these kinds of efforts.
