The Humane Society of Adams County has hired a new humane agent.  Last week, James McDonald was sworn in as Adams County’s new Humane Agent by Judge Brett M. Spencer.  McDonald brings over a decade of experience in animal care to the position as a thirteen-year veteran of the Animal Services and Enforcement Division of the Police Department for the City of Corona, California (population 152,374). Mr. McDonald moved to Adams County with his wife in June 2019 to be closer to her elderly father, who is 91 years old and lives near Portsmouth, Ohio.

A humane agent enforces animal cruelty, animal neglect and other animal protection laws as outlined in the Ohio Revised Code. McDonald will take calls from concerned citizens about animals in distress, as well as investigate neglect and cruelty cases. Funds for the Humane Agent position were generously appropriated through a grant from the Adams County Commissioners. To reach Agent McDonald, please contact the Humane Society of Adams County animal shelter at 937-544-8585 or send an email to info@adamscountyanimals.org. An online form to report animal cruelty can also be found on the organization’s website at www.adamscountyanimals.org
