Crafters are welcome to the Adult Craft Club at the North Adams Library on Wednesday, September 25 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occurring every other month, come join us for this program to learn how to make a variety of crafts! Tina Howard hosts this program for both expert crafters and those who are just starting this creative hobby. This month, you’ll make you own handmade cards!

For adults who prefer to read in their free time, the North Adams Library has their monthly Adult Book Club the last Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. At the meeting on September 26, they’ll discuss Murder Past Due by Miranda James. In this “A Cat in the Stacks Mystery” novel, a feline-fanatic librarian must discover the truth behind the mysterious murder of a local bestselling author by diving into the town’s past. Visit the North Adams Library to checkout your own copy of this book and see if you can solve this cozy who-dun-it mystery! Also at the meeting, you can pick up next month’s book club read: The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox. If your reading nook is closer to the Peebles Library, stop by to get a head start on reading the Bibliophiles’ October book club pick: House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielweski. Their next meeting will be their last for 2019, so don’t forget it is on Monday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m.

Teens and tweens, if you’re interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, don’t miss this month’s last STEM Saturday on September 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the North Adams Library. You will learn how to make your own movie with our HUE Animation Studio, starring our LEGOs or your favorite toys from home! Our STEM Saturday program is funded by Guiding Ohio Online, a grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

Did you know that you can help support the North Adams Library by shopping at Kroger? Using the Kroger Community Rewards Program for non-profits, you can sign up online to have Kroger donate a portion of every purchase to the Friends of the North Adams Public Library. Doing this is free and won’t cost you fuel points, but it generated over $1,000 last year, helping fund the North Adams Library’s Summer Reading Program!

Library Resource Spotlight: In honor of Hispanic History Month (September 15 to October 15), check out the Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos (Student Encyclopedia Findings). Entirely in Spanish, this World Book online encyclopedia is perfect for native Spanish speakers and people learning Spanish. It has a detailed visual dictionary, complete with maps and diagrams. The website also has fun, educational activities on a variety of topics, for all ages. In addition, if searching for a subject in Spanish is too difficult, you can browse articles in English. There are also links to periodicals from multiple Spanish-speaking countries, including Mexico, Chile, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Spain, and more! It even has the option of having the text read aloud to you, helping improve your Spanish pronunciation.
