Adams County experienced a remarkable turnout for its All-County Senior Citizens Day event held last week, celebrating the vitality and contributions of its senior community. With 121 guests in attendance, the event was a resounding success, drawing seniors from across the county along with sponsors, volunteers, and staff members. Former County Recorder Mark Tolle was the emcee for the event.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of the 2024 Outstanding Senior Citizen, Mary Ellen Briggs. Known for her unwavering dedication and service to the community, Briggs received heartfelt applause as she accepted her award, exemplifying the spirit of the county’s senior citizens.
In addition to the Outstanding Senior Citizen award, several other special recognitions were given out:
- Wisest Woman: Lucille Grooms, at 96 years young, was celebrated for her wisdom and life experiences.
- Wisest Gentleman: Jim Pertuset, at 92 years young, received accolades for his insight and contributions over the years.
- Longest Married Couple: Larry and Paula Stricklett were honored for their enduring love and partnership, having celebrated over 60 years of wedded bliss.
The event was filled with joy, laughter, and a sense of community, as seniors shared stories, connected with old friends, and made new ones. The contributions of the sponsors and the hard work of the volunteers and staff were also acknowledged, ensuring the day was a memorable one for all involved.
