Just before Christmas, candidates for the March primary election were required to file their petitions with the Adams County Board of Elections. The Board of Elections has now certified the petitions for candidates that will appear on the March 19th primary election ballot.
Who’s Running for What?
In the January 2nd seat for County Commissioner, three Republicans filed for the seat, one being incumbent Commissioner Teresa Diane Ward. Tony R. Hawes, Jr. and Jason Hayslip filed against Ward, setting up a three-way race.
For the January 3rd seat for County Commissioner, four Republicans filed for the seat, one being incumbent Commissioner Barbara Moore. Jeremy Caldwell, Troy L. Dotson, and Calvin Eli Robinson filed to run against Moore, setting up a four-way race. Dotson had previously run against Moore in 2020, where Moore easily prevailed.
For County Sheriff, with incumbent Sheriff Kim Rogers not seeking a fifth term, Rogers will retire at the end of this year with 16 years as Adams County Sheriff. In the race to replace him, six candidates have filed, including Shawn Cooley, Donnie Edginginton, Mike Estep, Samuel Purdin, Bob Ruebusch and Kenneth Dick.
For County Prosecuting Attorney, Haslam was appointed to the position last July following the retirement of David Kelley. Haslam had previously been elected Prosecutor in 2008 and served until he was appointed Assistant Ohio Attorney General. In the race, Haslam will be unopposed in the Republican primary and is the sole office holder being challenged in the fall by a Democrat, DJ Osborne, Jr.
Also filing were Larry Heller for Clerk of Courts, Chris Moore for County Recorder, Lee Pertuset for County Engineer, David B. Parrett for County Coroner, and Lisa A. Newman for County Treasurer. All will be unopposed in both the primary and general elections.
The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, February 20th at 9:00 p.m. Early voting will begin on February 21st at 8:00 a.m.
