For all thrifty book lovers, the Adams County Public Library is having a county-wide Book Sale on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at all library locations! Among the thousands of items available, you can find hardcover, paperback, large print, and children’s books, as well as books on cd. Titles will include both fiction and nonfiction, in a variety of subjects and genres! Since the items for sale were either discarded from that specific library’s collection or were donated by patrons like you, each library’s selections will be very different. Feel free to take a tour around our county on these days, visiting each branch and perusing the different items for sale at Manchester, North Adams, Peebles, and West Union.
Another exciting event at the Adams County Public Library is the Hoxworth Blood Drive at the Peebles Library on Tuesday, September 3 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati welcomes all types to donate much-needed, life-saving blood! Also, mark your calendars for North Adams Library’s Family Game Night on Wednesday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m. All ages are welcome to come play a variety of board games, ranging from classics like Candyland, Scrabble, and Clue to more modern favorites like Cranium and more! There will also be non-board games like Twister, Jenga, Jenga Xtreme, and Dominoes. Delicious sweet and salty snacks will be provided to complete the Family Game Night atmosphere. Kids in elementary school, don’t forget, North Adams Library’s After School Program with Allison is every Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. where you’ll make cool crafts and participate in S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities.
Remember teens, West Union Library’s Anime Club with Andrew is Thursday, September 5 at 3:30 p.m. For fans of anime and manga, this program happens every first and third Thursday of the month.
Library Resource Spotlight: If you enjoy older books but wish you could read them digitally, you’ll love Project Gutenberg. Created and digitized by thousands of volunteers, this website contains over 60,000 eBooks available for download or to read online. It offers books in both epub and kindle format, in addition to audiobooks, music, and some pictures (both moving and still). The main focus of Project Gutenberg is older literary works, such as classics and difficult-to-find early titles. Also, it has hundreds of books in over 50 languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Greek, and even some Native American dialects. Project Gutenberg is completely free, requires no registration, and does not need any special apps to work properly. This website also provides offline catalogs that you can download and print so you can browse without having an internet connection.
