The annual Ohio River Sweep in Adams County has been rescheduled due to high water, unsafe riverbank conditions, and forecasts calling for rain.
Originally planned for Saturday, June 7, the event will now take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, in the river communities of Manchester, Wrightsville, and Rome. Organizers made the call in the interest of volunteer safety, with Rome coordinator Jody Gray and Manchester coordinator Christine Henderson preparing to welcome participants at their local community boat ramps on the morning of the rescheduled event.
In Wrightsville, where participation is more informal, residents will clean up the riverbank independently as water levels allow. The Wrightsville River Sweep effort will also wrap up at 12 noon on June 21. Gloves, trash bags, and River Sweep 2025 T-shirts will be provided for all volunteers. Participants must sign a waiver at check-in.
Collected trash will be picked up at all locations during the week of June 23, with designated drop-off areas near each boat ramp.
