The Peebles Old Timers Days festival will not take place this year due to a major construction project scheduled in the heart of the village during the same time the event is traditionally held.
Festival organizers made the announcement last week via social media, stressing that the decision was not due to any rumors circulating in the community. “We want to be clear: this decision is not because someone sold their house, not because no one wants to do it, and definitely not because anyone is trying to shut it down. The reason is construction,” organizers stated.
According to the post, the Village of Peebles will begin infrastructure work that includes the installation of bump-outs, drainage repairs, and sidewalk upgrades. The construction is expected to last up to a year and must be completed by September 2026.
Old Timers Days typically draws large crowds to downtown Peebles each September with a weekend of parades, live music, games, food vendors, and community fellowship. With much of the work impacting Main Street and nearby areas, organizers say hosting the festival safely and effectively this year is simply not possible.
While the traditional festival will be on hold, organizers are planning a one-day community event to help preserve the spirit of Old Timers Days. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, and will feature kids games, a power wheel derby, a giant slide, and vendors. More details about the one-day celebration are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
“We know how much this festival means to the community,” organizers said. “And while we can’t hold the full event this year, we’re committed to keeping the tradition alive in a way that works with the current circumstances.”
Old Timers Days has been a staple of the Peebles community for decades, bringing together generations of residents to celebrate local heritage and enjoy family fun. Organizers say they look forward to bringing back the full festival experience once construction is complete.
