While downtown construction forced the cancellation of the traditional Old Timers Days festival this year, the spirit of the beloved community tradition lived on as organizers hosted a scaled-down, one-day celebration on Saturday, September 13.
Held at 185 Charlotte Avenue, the mini-festival offered families a full day of activities, including kids’ games, a power wheel derby, a giant slide, and a variety of vendors. Live music and food added to the festive atmosphere, ensuring that the event still reflected the joy and fellowship Old Timers Days is known for.
A longtime staple of the festival also returned: the traditional bake sale, held Saturday evening at 5 p.m. at the Lions Building. Community members were invited to drop off baked goods the day before, and proceeds went to support future festivals.
Organizers emphasized that while the construction project on Main Street made it impossible to hold the full festival downtown this year, the mini-festival kept the tradition alive. “We know how much this festival means to the community,” organizers said earlier this summer. “And while we can’t hold the full event this year, we’re committed to keeping the tradition alive in a way that works with the current circumstances.”
Old Timers Days has been a cornerstone of the Peebles community for decades, bringing generations together to celebrate local heritage. While the full celebration is expected to return after the completion of village infrastructure upgrades, this year’s scaled-down event proved that the spirit of Old Timers Days remains strong
