‘Night To Shine’ Prom Celebrates Local Individuals with Special Needs

Over 700 churches from around the world hosted special prom events honoring adults with special needs and disabilities Friday night including Church 180 in Seaman, Ohio.

According to the Tim Tebow Foundation, Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. Worldwide, 721 churches from around the world will come together to host Night to Shine for approximately 115,000 honored guests through the support of 215,000 volunteers. Seventy-two honored guests with special needs were at Friday’s Night to Shine. Attendees received star treatment throughout the evening as volunteers helped them with makeup and hair, shined shoes, handed out corsages and boutonnieres and took their photos.

“It was a spectacular prom event for individuals with special needs in Adams County,” said Liz Lafferty, Superintendent of the Adams County Board of Developmental Disabilities. “Church 180 hosted a total of 241 honored guests, buddies, volunteers and VIP community members. The Night to Shine committee thanks everyone who donated monetarily or in-kind to make this a magical evening!”

Guests danced throughout the evening, took limo rides, and enjoyed dinner with friends, family and their buddies. The attendees were crowned as prom kings and queens by the end of the event. “I have had parents of honored guests share stories of their son or daughter, still being so excited after the event, sang themselves to sleep,” said one volunteer.

The event, “Night to Shine” was created by former NFL quarterback and current professional baseball player Tim Tebow and his foundation.
“Church 180 is honored to partner with the Tim Tebow Foundation and our local businesses and agencies to make night to shine an opportunity for Adams Countians with special needs,” said Pastor Mike Parks. “What an amazing night. Thank you to all of our volunteers who made this evening so special for our precious honored guests.”

Event volunteers are comprised of staff from the Adams County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Adams County Ohio Valley School District, Manchester Local School District, and Church 180.
