All Adams County Public Library locations will be closed on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
At 3:30 p.m. on Monday, December 16, the Teen Advisory Board at the North Adams Library meets for ages 10 to 18 to make their own snow globe! This program, which occurs every third Monday of the month, welcomes teens and tweens to eat snacks while completing the activity they decided on the previous month. Then, everyone will get to vote on what they want to do at the following month’s meeting and help plan what we’ll need. The Teen Advisory Board is a great way for teens to get involved with designing library programs they and their peers will enjoy!
Remember, the Peebles Library is hosting a Hoxworth Blood Drive on Tuesday, December 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All blood types are welcome, and you can schedule an appointment by calling the Hoxworth Blood Center at (513) 451-0910.
If you’re in the mood for a festive read, the North Adams Library’s Adult Book Club reads “Catching Christmas” by Terri Blackstock this December. This cozy Christmas romance tells the tale of a young lawyer who wants to both keep her job and make her ill grandmother happy, alongside the story of the cab driver tasked with helping the grandmother on her quest to find a Christmas date for her granddaughter. The Adult Book Club meets on Thursday, December 19th at 5:30 p.m. to discuss this sweet novel just in time for the holidays!
Also, make sure you stop by either the West Union Library on Friday, December 20 or the Peebles Library on Saturday, December 21 to meet local author Robert E. Hawkins! He is a West Union High School graduate from 1988 who recently wrote, “A Book of Matches: The Life, Murder and Family of an Appalachian War Veteran,” which chronicles the murder of his grandfather, Oliver Elliot “Zeke” Stayner, a World War II United States Air Force veteran, in Peebles during 1949. It also tells of his widowed grandmother, Edith Stayner, and her two daughters, Susan and Dottie, who persevered in the aftermath of this tragedy. Robert E. Hawkins will be at the West Union Library from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. this Friday and at the Peebles Library from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. this Saturday, which is sponsored by the Peebles Magazine Club.
If you’re interested in learning more about robots, check out December’s STEM Saturdays. This month, you’ll get to try out Ollie, Sphero, and the Ozobots, comparing them and seeing which one you like best! For ages 8 and up, you can learn about the science of robotics at the Peebles Library on December 14, the North Adams Library on December 21, and the West Union Library on December 28, each time from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Library Resource Spotlight: If you plan to take any standardized test next year, you’ll want to use the Learning Express Library for all your test-prep needs! This free online resource, brought to you by EBSCO Learning Express in conjunction with Ohio Means Jobs, provides practice tests and study guides for numerous academic and professional tests. From the ACT, SAT, and GED, to the ASVAB, NCLEX-RN and –PN, and the Praxis, you’ll even find AP practice exams and study tools. The Learning Express Library will help you prepare and receive higher scores on numerous standardized tests of all types.
